I love how our culture is so obsessed with ‘zombies’! Some say that the zombie apocalypse genre is a well and truly exhausted one, but Wyrmwood manages to breathe some fresh air into the genre, making it a must see for all you zombie fans out there!
The book Everything You Need to Know About Zombies says, after conducting a comprehensive study, that Australia would be the best prepared country in the event of a Zombie Apocalypse, not sure how they came up with that, but Wyrmwood is an Australian film, so, I guess they know what they’re talking about!? Right!?
Wyrmwood is visually stunning and entertaining. Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner, aussie brothers, are responsible for this ambitious film. With a tagline of Mad Max meets Dawn of The Dead, this pair are aiming high. I’m inspired by their effort, and after only being able to work on this project on their weekends, over a period of 4 years, the end product they have is something anybody should be proud of.
The story develops quickly, and the script is kept relatively simple. What makes it shine is the cinematographic style it employs, with cleverly crafted sets and props, everything truly looks genuine. A lot of work has clearly gone into making this film. The cast is at this point mostly unknown to me, but they deliver well seasoned performances, and you’ll be delighted to know that there are rumours floating around that a sequel is in the making, who’s in? Wyrmwood 2, hopefully, coming soon!
TRIVIA COOKIE: These aussie brothers have set up a production company called Guerrilla Films, there site has a shop selling Wyrmwood merchandise including a ‘banned’ poster.
