Ever since I read that Eddie Redmayne was going to play the part of Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl, I have been eagerly anticipating this project, and now that we have our first trailer, well, it’s time to get the tissue box out!
This film is a biographical piece on the life of Danish artist Gerda Wegener who painted her own husband, Einar Wegener as a lady. The trailer reveals a lot about the story and possible plot lines, so if you don’t want to spoil the movie for yourself, I suggest you stay away from the trailer. Regardless, you should know that this film is going to be very interesting to watch, especially the performance from Eddie Redmayne.
Eddie Redmayne won an Oscar for Best Actor last year in his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, is he possibly in store for another Oscar? He looks very convincing as a woman but, perhaps the biggest hurdle will be his voice and how he manages to alter the tone to make his portrayal of a male to female transgender more believable.
Tom Hooper has proven his ability to handle emotional pieces with The King’s Speech and Les Misérables, so we know that the project has been in good hands. I am sure that this film will receive a lot of attention and hopefully it will help to further open up the conversation about transgender issues. Who is excited about The Danish Girl? And perhaps the most important question of all is, what does the transgender community think about The Danish Girl?
Revision: Congratulations to Alicia Vikander on her first Oscar win, her performance in the film was grand!
