the martian book

So I just watched the trailer for Ridley Scott’s, The Martian. The Martian trailer is insanely awesome! If you haven’t already checked it out, please do, it will hopefully get you excited.

So the story goes that Andy Weir published a book entitled, The Martian. He put it up on his blog for fun, and it became popular, he then sold it for 99cents on Amazon, and eventually got published and sailed up to 12th, on the Bestsellers list, if that story isn’t enough to inspire my fellow bloggers, then…

Now, clearly an inevitable option, that ever so popular sci-fi book is going to be a movie! The cast looks stellar, and although I am not always a fan of Matt Damon, his performance from the trailer looks ok-ish. The film no doubt looks like it will be packed with intense action sequences, and no doubt be emotional, to say the least. This is going to be Ridley Scott’s fourth sci-fi film, after Alien, Blade Runner and Prometheus.

I feel cautious about this film, due to the mess of a movie that Exodus: Gods and Kings was. Ridley Scott can be hit and miss, but he has made some true classics so we remain hopeful. With Exodus, he was adapting the Biblical passage, well, very loosely, that is, so I am going to remain cautiously excited, since this film is also going to be an adaption from previously published material.

Watching the trailer, I couldn’t help feel like, ‘I want to watch this now!’ But, I must admit that there are similar tones to other recent sci-fi films, perhaps Gravity comes to mind, and the more recent Interstellar, considering that Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon were both in that film.

FilmMunchers, 2015 is already proving to be a treat, cinema-wise, and now we can look forward to this interesting film, The Martian, which is expected to hit cinemas on the 25th of November. Who is excited? What are your thoughts?
