Twenty years later, and these two are still at it. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels return to try and re-kindle the Dumb and Dumber love, but FilmMunch.com says that they failed to achieve anything memorable this time round!
The original film was so crazy and unpredictable, anything imaginable was about to happen, it almost felt like a fun ride, but this second offering just doesn’t have the same energy. Jeff Daniels is particularly lacklustre here, and Jim Carrey trailing not too far behind. Perhaps the characters played by Rob Riggle are funnier? Some will disagree, but there isn’t freshness to this film.
I did laugh at the explanation given to the 20 year gap, it’s a crack-up worthy joke, but the fun kind of stops there. The story has almost the exact same frame-work, so once you figure that out, the can pretty much guess what happens next, and there aren’t as many memorable joke, unfortunately.
I still wanted to give my fellow FilmMunchers something interesting to read, and it turns out that there are some connections between Dumb and Dumber To, to The Walking Dead! Who is a fan of The Walking Dead here? With season 5 just ended, it’s going to be a painful 7 months without it, but anyway, that’s another story.
First obvious connection is that Laurie Holden who plays the foot fetish gold digger, Adele was in a number of seasons of The Walking Dead. Secondly Harry refers to Adele as ‘sugar tits’, which is a reference to season one of The Walking Dead, when Merle refers to her by the same name. Thirdly, there is an ariel shot of an old mill in this film, which was used as a set for Episode 12 in Season 3 of The Walking Dead! Interesting of what?
It’s brave to try and ignite a 20 year old flame, and in this instance, this bold move was a failure.
TRIVIA COOKIE: The ‘To’ in the title actually means two in Danish and Norwegian. So the misspelling isn’t intentionally ‘dumb’, but ironically ‘clever’…? I’m done…
