MINI REVIEW: From Dawn Of The Dead to the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, this man, which we call Zack Snyder, but surely must be a Kryptonian, has basically been solely responsible for the creation and now, eventual evolution of the DC Extended Universe. Man Of Steel was the very first instalment of the DCEU, and it’s only appropriate we take a look back at how good or not this film really was.
This movie is not the best super hero movie out there, but to be fair, it isn’t the worst either. Some may argue that it is probably an hour too long, and you may be inclined to agree when we are so accustomed to the usual 90 minute fare, but when you are re-inventing a character such as Superman, not doubt you do need an ‘epic’ instalment. I do think this warranted runtime should have been used better, for the solidifying of a character, played by Henry Cavill. The perfect recipe for success was presented in this film, all the right ingredients were there, but at the end of this degustation, it surely does feel flat, and why is that?
In all honestly, there was probably way too much action and special effects, not that these are not welcome and amazing, but it all felt old and recycled. There wasn’t a great deal of action that felt new and fresh, and in a cinematic era post The Avengers, super hero movies need to stand out as being different, if they’re going to be critically successful. Man Of Steel missed the mark, but here is to hoping that the second instalment of the DCEU really gives us something to talk about, write about and get excited about! The cinematography for Man Of Steel was mostly enjoyable, and had there been much less focus pulls, it would have been close to immaculate, regardless this film does warrant a 7 frames serious, so enjoy!
