MINI REVIEW: Perhaps the opening title cards are the only give away that this film was made in the late 1960’s, because watching it in 2016, boy, has it aged well! Somehow it still feels fresh and fun, engaging and most important of all entertaining. This was the final film to be supervised by Walt Disney himself, and it was the last he would ever see released. One hell of a farewell!

The animation is truly stunning and the attention to detail in the set designs make it a joy to watch almost 50 years later. The soundtrack is so good, that you can’t help it but start tapping away, perhaps even be motivated to get up and jiggle, just like Baloo the bear. The story is simple, but with the clever script it manages to present us with a film that has social value and importance. There are references to how ‘man’ is feared because of his fire and his gun, no doubt a jab at the senseless gun violence of man. Additionally the focus is on Mowgli’s foster parents, namely Bagheera and Baloo, who happen to be both male by the way, almost a hint at the idea that good parenting comes from true love, not the biological connection.

There are many reasons why The Jungle Book is a revered classic, and lets hope that the new remake does it justice. I hope it is as fun and heart warming as the original! Whilst watching this classic, I could not help but notice how elegant some frames where, and as such we are happy to present seven of them, so enjoy!
