MINI REVIEW: How is it that I had not seen this film, or heard about it, before this week!? My good friend David from ThatMomentIn.com recommend this film to me, and I took on the challenge! Really, there is no other way to say it, you need to see this film! If you love sci-fi with an emphasis on fantasy, this is the film for you.
Perhaps my one and only gripe with this film is how many unanswered questions it left me with. Typically I enjoy a film that asks me to think about it and to search for clues and what not, but in this case, Dark City should really be a closed case. What I mean is that, because of the levels of creativity here, we need it explained, otherwise we are left wandering if that is all the story they wanted to tell, or is there a sequel!? While we’re on the subject of sequels and remakes, I honestly think that this is a film that would do well to have a remake made, or am I breaking ever mover-lover law by saying that?
The performance by Rufus Sewell is stand out, and as much as I wanted to think that Kiefer Sutherland and Jennifer Connelly played their part too, I think their parts were over acted and under acted, respectively. In terms of creativity and story, there is a lot happening here, and it’s no wander the Wachowski’s ‘borrowed’ some elements from this film when they took on the Matrix project. Even the green colour palette from Dark City is used in The Matrix. It was an eye-opening experience to see this film, and that is why I’d also like to recommend this film to you.
One of the amazing aspects of this film is the stunning cinematography, and as a result here are 7 stunning frames in Dark City, enjoy!
1 Get To The Phone Neo
2 The Lady In The Green Dress
4 Maze For All
5 Water Phobia
6 Connelly’s Jetty
7 Where Is Earth?
